WP6 - Risk Communication & Governance

The expected increase in future risk potential due to climate change calls for improved risk-related decision-making in spatial planning, including consideration of the multiple uncertainties connected with estimated climate change scenarios. That is why risk governance principles including the entity of actors, rules, conventions, processes and mechanisms concerned with the management and communication of climate change-related risks should be promoted in planning procedures. Combining of bottom-up and top-down processes is essential for consensus-building between all stakeholders and for legitimating public decisions. Based on embedding of risk governance principles in project activities, WP6 will investigate existing risk management systems in model regions and will contribute to raising awareness on climate-related risks by conducting dialogue processes with regional and local stakeholders. Thereby, WP 6 will provide a procedural setting for facilitating stakeholder involvement in all thematic Work Packages on model region level.
